Was Uncle Ho an Incorrigible Liar? |

Point of View
Week Ending 13 May 2007
Given the recent prosecutions, convictions and jailing of political dissidents such as Attorney Nguyen Van Dai, Le Thi Cong Nhan, Catholic Father Nguyen Van Ly, Dr. Le Nguyen Sang, Journalist Huynh Nguyen Dao and Attorney Nguyen Bac Truyen, it was with some surprise when I read, on VietnamNet (13 May 2007), an article by a Dr. Tran Viet Hoan entitled “Uncle Ho: his words accord with his actions”.
The fact that Dr. Tran Viet Hoan’s article is printed in a prominent mouthpiece of the government such as VietnamNet is indicative of his status within the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). The good doctor offered the following analysis, among others:
“Truth and Reality. Because Truth is the opposite of falsehood and lies. Reality is the opposite of cursoriness and half-heartedness. This means bitter pills will cure sickness; words that shock your ears are good guidance for action (Confucius) - This is the effective weapon against malicious, deceitful elements whose words do not accord with their actions. They say one thing and do another. They use words to hide their sins. They mix black with white, righteousness with evil. Just as Uncle has taught us: There are those whose mouths always say service to the Fatherland, service to the people, but are seduced by corruption, waste (and become) harmful to the Fatherland (and) the people.”
Prior to joining WTO and the hosting of the APEC Summit in Hanoi, not only did the CPV guarantee to the USA and other world leaders that there were no political or religious prisoners in Vietnam, and it was not CPV policy to suppress human rights nor religious freedom. Indeed so much so that Vietnam was allowed to join WTO, its name removed from the infamous CPC list of the US State Department and Hanoi proudly hosted the APEC summit in much glamour and fanfare.
But as soon as the CPV has reaped the benefits of its guarantees to the international community, it makes a 180 degree turn, betray its own words and carried out unprecedented suppression of religious, human, and civil rights in Vietnam.
They are the heirs to the legacy of their Uncle Ho. They are constitutionally mandated by article 4 of the constitution to study and follow the thoughts of Ho Chi Minh. They must thus be the true heirs to his thoughts and action.
Either they are a bunch of heretics or their venerable Uncle Ho was an incorrigible liar. They have studied his words and actions so hard that their words and actions completely mirror his.
According to an article published May 9, 2007:
(Ahearn: Montagnards up against the wall, by Lorraine Ahearn, Staff Writer, News-Record.com)
“Well, it's now been six months since the U.S. removed its new trade partner, Vietnam, from a human rights blacklist. And guess what?
Human rights under one of the world's most oppressive regimes have taken a turn for the worse, according to relief workers, members of Congress and leaders of the Montagnard exile community in Greensboro.
"The Vietnamese government lied to the world in order to join the World Trade organization," said Y-Siu Hlong, executive director of the 8,000-member Montagnard-Dega Association based here.
"In reality, they still put people in jail for their beliefs; they still arrest students for using the Internet."
The ethnic highlanders have long been a thorn in the Vietnamese government's side. They are a largely Christian racial minority in an officially Buddhist country and fought for the U.S. in the Vietnam War.”
Did Ms. Lorraine Ahearn say that the CPV lied to the world in order to join the WTO? Whose fault is it that CPV leaders are shameless liars?
What did CPV’s own Dr. Tran Viet Hoan mean when he used the expression “they mix black with white, righteousness with evil”? Would mixing article 4 of the 1992 constitution with the rights and freedoms in articles 54, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74 in the same constitution, while using article 4 to rob the people of all their rights and freedom under the same constitution, fit his description? It sure does to me.
There is a saying: Like father like son.
In the case of Ho Chi Minh and CPV leaders, the saying should definitely be: like uncle like nephews.
To be able to bring up such a bunch of shameless lying and cheating nephews, Ho Chi Minh must be an incorrigible liar in his own time.
