Ref: Immediate Release of Dr. Pham Hong Son for Medical Treatment
Dear Sir/Madam,
The immediate release of Dr. Pham Hong Son for medical treatment is necessary. We call on you for special attention and action to this urgent matter.
Dr. Pham Hong Son, a medical doctor who was incarcerated for his translation of an article from the website of the U.S. Embassy in Viet Nam, titled “What is democracy”. Dr. Son was sentenced five years in jail plus an additional three years of house arrest for his freedom of __expression. Due to hard conditions in prison, Dr. Pham Hong Son’s health has been deteriorating rapidly. Dr. Son was diagnosed with hernia, an illness that requires immediate treatment attention. Recently, Dr. Pham Hong Son has been developed the symptom of coughing with blood.
We respectfully call on your attention about Dr. Son’s case and appeal for your support in asking Viet Nam government to immediately release Dr. Pham Hong Son. We would like to co-operate with your organization in demanding the Viet Nam government to respect the international human rights obligations, including their commitment under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
The People’s Democracy Party (PDP) has been founded in Viet Nam to fight peacefully for Freedom, Democracy, Justice and Prosperity. Party leaders and members of the PDP constitute scholars, university students and former government officials.
On behalf of our Party, we also kindly ask you to demand the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (SRV) release all political prisoners such as former reporter Nguyen Vu Binh and former SRV’s soldier Nguyen Khac Toan who were held behind bars for distributing their democratic writing online.
